Mustafa Dzhemilev – legendary leader of the Crimean Tatar national movement and Soviet dissident – to open ethno-historical conference "Crimea: Brothers Behind the Wall” in Groningen at the Hampshire Hotel Plaza on 29 January 2015.

In 2014 Ukrainian topic was one of the most discussed all over the globe. Crimean crisis triggered the irreversible processes in geopolitics. The problem however is mostly viewed from political perspective and social factor is often left out of attention.

The ethno-historical conference “Crimea: Brothers Behind the Wall” will offer insight into the current situation in Crimea, Crimea’s historical background, and the personal stories of those for whom Crimea i...s home. Following the recent, well-publicized geopolitical developments, the status of Crimea is uncertain. One thing is clear: Crimea’s inhabitants, not external forces, should determine its future. Crimea is multicultural and local ethnic groups have lived there together in peace for many years. According to the last national census in 2001, 576,647 (24 percent of the total Crimean population) ethnic Ukrainians and 245,291 (10.22 percent) Crimean Tatars regard Crimea as their ancestral homeland. These people have something to say to the rest of the world and the conference aims to give them a platform.

All of us have a unique chance to meet legendary leader of Crimean Tatars Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev. The person, who has dedicated the life to his people and never betrayed principles of freedom and democracy. “I never depend on the possible consequences when it comes to saying what I think is right. It is what it is.”- he said and always has followed this rule. It resulted in 6 sentences of total 15 years in Soviet Union labor camps and even the longest starving strike in the history of peaceful human rights movements (303!!! days) didn’t break an iron will of this man. He is 72, but the external energy he radiates will give you an extreme personal motivation and believe in humanity. During “Crimea: Brothers Behind the Wall”, he and other esteemed speakers will explain why the struggle for these rights and for Crimea itself is now more critical than ever.

Мустафа Джемілєв- легендарний лідер кримсько-татарського національного руху і радянський дисидент прийме участь у етнічно-історичній конференції «Крим: Брати за Стіною», яка відбудеться в м.Гронінген, Hampshire Hotel Plaza 29го січня 2015 року.

Тема України не сходила зі шпальт міжнародних видань впродовж усього 2014 року. Кримська криза запустила незворотні процеси в світовій геополітиці. Дана проблема здебільшого обговорювалась з політичної точки зору і соціальна складова часто залишалась поза дискусією.

Етно- історична конференція «Крим: Брати за Стіною» присвячена нинішній ситуації на Кримському півострові та історії Криму. А також розповідь із перших вуст людей, для яких Крим- це, в першу чергу, Батьківщина, надасть гостям можливість зрозуміти проблему зсередини. Згідно з останнім переписом населення проведеним у 2001 році на півострові проживає 245,291 (10.22% від усього населення) кримських татар, 576,647 (24%) етнічних українців і напротязі багатьох років Крим був територією, де різні національні меншини співіснували в мирі і злагоді. Ці люди хочуть розповісти світові про нинішню ситуацію в їхньому домі і наша конференція послужить їм у цьому платформою і рупором.

Ми маємо унікальну можливість зустрітися з легендарним лідером Кримсько-Татарського народу – Мустафою Джемілєвим- людиною, яка присвятила життя своєму народу і ніколи не зраджувала принципам свободи і демократії. «Те, що я вважаю за правильне сказати, я не ставлю в залежність від того, які можуть бути наслідки. Що є- то є.»- сказав він і завжди дотримувався цього правила. Така принциповість обернулась для Мустафи Джемілєва шістьма тюремними ув’язненнями та загалом п’ятнадцятьма роками позбавлення волі в радянських виправних таборах і навіть найдовше страйк-голодування в історії боротьби за права людини (303!!! дні) не зламали його залізної волі. Йому 72, але внутрішня енергія, яку він випромінює, надає оточуючим небувалу мотивацію і віру в людство. Під час конференції «Крим: Брати за Стіною», він та інші високоповажні спікери пояснять чому боротьба за права людини і за Крим загалом, наразі критична, як ніколи.

Beste deelnemers, Graag willen wij u erop attenderen dat de lokatie van onze conferentie is veranderd. De nieuwe lokatie is: Pathe Groningen, Zaal 4, Gedempte Zuiderdiep 78, 9711 HL Groningen. Het ligt binnen in de stad, op loopafstand vanuit het Centraal station Groningen. Voor de gasten die met auto's komen, is er parkeergelegenheid direct onder Pathe (de kosten zijn 1 euro per uur). Gezien de grote aantallen gasten uit andere steden komen, hopen wij hiermee dat u ons sneller en makkelijker kunt bereiken.
Dear participants, Hereby we would like to inform you that the venue of our conference has changed. The new location is: Pathe Groningen, Hall 4, Gedempte Zuiderdiep 78, 9711 HL Groningen. It is situated in the very hart of the city, within walking distance from the Central Station of Groningen. For guests arriving by car, there is parking directly under Pathe (the costs are 1 euro per hour). Given the large numbers of guests coming from other cities, we hope that you can reach us quicker and easier.
